CLASSIFICATION OF SOFTWARE LICENSES
FREE SOFTWARE LICENSE UNPROTECTED LEGACY:
speak of derivative works for any transformation of an earlier work.
You can create a derivative work without this having any protection requirement. Many licenses are in this class, but usually can be summarized as established by the BSD license, Artistic or MIT.
For example, a computer program obtained by modifying a previous program is a derivative work: Academic Free License v.1.2, Apache Software License v.1.1, attribution assurance license
WITH FREE SOFTWARE LICENSE INHERITED PROTECTION:
Some restrictions apply to derivative works.
The license emblematic of this section is the GNU GPL, but fall more as diverse as: Mozilla Public License, Sun Community Source License, and many more.
FREE SOFTWARE LICENSE:
is protected against use, copying or redistribution. (Also called proprietary software, proprietary software, proprietary software and proprietary software) refers to any software where users have limited possibilities to use, modify or redistribute (with or without modification), or its source code is unavailable or access to it is restricted.
non-free software in a natural or legal person (company, corporation, foundation, etc..) Owns the copyright on software, not denying or granting the same time, the rights to use the program for any purpose, to examine how the program works and adapt it to your needs (where access to source code is a precondition) to distribute copies, or to improve the program and make public improvements (for this source code access is a prerequisite) .
In this way, software is still not free even if the source code is made public, when holding the reservation of rights regarding use, modification or distribution
